Don’t have a lot of money? You can still get Mutual Funds without fees!

Generally low balance fees and account maintenance fees are also waived. Automatic Investment plans also have the added benefit of creating a sustainable investment plan and building savings without too much effort.

Should I put money in my 401 or IRA?

Based on comments on both newsgroups, here is what seems to make most sense:
Contribute to your 401 upto your employers match (employer match is free money)
Invest in IRA upto the maximum limit (because IRA gives more options than 401)
Invest in 401 upto the maximum limit
